Vocabulary

To make sure our brains don’t turn to mush over the summer, let’s work on improving our vocab. Here are the words of the week:

schadenfreude                                      lagniappe                                                                                hinky                                                        tchotchke

If you don’t know the words, look them up. Try using them in your daily conversation. For extra credit, use them all in one sentence!

  1. I was hesitant to admit that I enjoy many a bout of shadenfreude when certain people I work with finally get what they deserve. I was worried you might think something was hinky that I just dropped that term into the conversation. However, as for the tchotchkes, I view getting them (like my Paul Splittorf bobble-head) as one of the lagniappes of having my own office. (I was considering using them all in one sentence, but I didn’t want to pull a mental muscle so early in the day)

  2. Are any of these words in English?

  3. I don’t even know how to pronounce these words. Where did you find them?
